Vitol Biomethane celebrates commercial operations milestone at Chastang RNG facility

VBM developed the Chastang Project in partnership with the City of Mobile to capture landfill gas and convert it into renewable natural gas. The project includes an RNG processing plant, natural gas pipeline, and pipeline interconnection designed to upgrade landfill gas into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas, reducing methane emissions while providing a lower-carbon source of energy.

To commemorate the Commercial Operations Date (COD) milestone, VBM will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 8, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. CT at the Chastang facility in Mobile, Alabama. “The successful startup of our Chastang facility marks another important milestone in VBM’s continued growth,” said John Paul Elder, President of VBM. “We’re proud to celebrate this achievement alongside our partners, employees, and community stakeholders.”

The Chastang Project captures landfill methane and converts it into renewable natural gas for injection into the interstate natural gas pipeline system. By putting this renewable resource to productive use, the project helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions while supporting the transition to lower-carbon energy.
